NEW Men’s Multi+ Supplement

This multivitamin gives men targeted support for their nutritional and health needs. In addition to the everyday dosage of vitamins like A, B, and C, this men’s multivitamin features several other herbs that are particularly important for men.  Let’s take a quick look at them.

Saw Palmetto is known as a great herb for prostate health.  It is also used to treat urinary tract problems. It is also been known to boost libido and increase sperm production.

Lycopene has been shown to reduce free radicals, particularly in the prostate. It can significantly improve testosterone levels.  Increased lycopene intake can reduce the odds of erectile dysfunction.

Alpha Lipoic Acid helps improve testosterone levels and reduces DNA damage.

CoQ10 has many benefits including improving heart health and reducing depression symptoms.  It is also been known to reduce muscle pain and improve performance.

Grapeseed Extract is a great herb for vascular and vein health.  It has been suggested that it may help with hypertension and blood pressure.

This is a very exciting new supplement that is being offered by Butterfly Express. My son is already taking it.

About two months ago they debuted a Women’s Multi+ and it has been an amazing addition to my daily routine. It is very exciting so I would like to share more information about it as well.

Women’s Multi+ Supplement

Multivitamins are an important part of a healthy lifestyle for all women, regardless of age or activity level. Multi+ Women’s Vitamins are specially formulated with higher doses of iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, and B vitamins—all vital in meeting the needs of a woman’s body throughout her various life stages. The presence of antioxidants helps combat oxidative stress and helps women remain healthy as they age. These easy-to-swallow softgels also contain herbal extracts that are particularly important for women. Let’s take a quick look a them.

Dong Quai is often used for reducing hot flashes in women and balancing estrogen.

Cranberry is an amazing herb for kidney health and can help prevent urinary tract infections.

Evening Primrose helps manage and balance female hormones. It is used for issues like PMS and menopause.

Horsetail is a great kidney herb and it speeds the repair of damaged connective tissue, improving strength and elasticity.

Red Clover has many positive effects on women’s health including enhancing fertility and improving menstruation and menopause by relieving symptoms of hot flashes and moodiness.

CoQ10 has many benefits including improving heart health and reducing depression symptoms. It is also been known to reduce muscle pain.

Liquid Chloropyhll

Liquid Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll is a green pigment naturally produced by plants and algae and gives them their characteristic green color. It is critical for photosynthesis, the process by which sunlight is converted into chemical energy.  Green foods are known to be cleansers.  This is particularly true for the gut.

Chlorophyll can function as a free radical neutralizer. It supports the body’s detoxification processes and has been traditionally used as an internal deodorizer and cleaner. The detoxifying properties aid in the elimination of harmful substances.  This can be a real help to the liver and lymph.

It is very important to include greens in our diets regularly.  If you don’t feel you are getting enough greens in your diet chlorophyll can be an easy way to increase them.  Chlorophyll-rich foods have been known to improve cognitive function and brain health.  These are all great reasons to make sure you are getting enough greens in your diet.  There are so many greens to choose from.  Some of my favorites are dark green lettuce, broccoli,  green beans, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and kale.  Even though I like greens I don’t always get enough and I am glad I can take ‘liquid greens’ in the form of chlorophyll.

Magnesium & Calcium

Magnesium and Calcium

The liver plays a huge role in keeping the body free from toxins.  It also produces enzymes that are used to digest food.  The liver performs over 500 functions in the body.  I highly recommend reading more about the digestive system and studying the liver in particular.  A good place to start would be the Body Systems-Digestive System page.   Many of the functions performed by the liver require calcium.  Calcium in turn requires Magnesium to be absorbed.

Calcium and Magnesium also work together in the body. Every time you use a muscle you are using calcium to contract that muscle. Every time a muscle releases you are using magnesium. So if you workout and get very sore that is a good sign you are deficient in calcium or magnesium or possibly and probably both.

This also means that people with physically demanding jobs are going to require more calcium and magnesium than people like me who live on the computer.

Calcium

This is one of the first elements depleted by insufficient dietary nutrients, it is one of the most essential of the major biochemical elements present in the body. It supports bones, teeth, nails, nerves, muscles, and tissues. It supports healthy body alkalinity for good immune system support.

Magnesium

Supports normal nerve and muscle function, aids digestion by activating enzymes for protein and carbohydrate metabolism, relaxes the body into deeper sleep, supports normal heart and liver function, and may help reduce inflammation in muscles, joints, and tissues. Magnesium also contributes to a healthy immune system and the formation of DNA and RNA. It potentially aids in over 300 body processes in all! Magnesium is also necessary for the absorption of calcium and other minerals.

Best Ways to Take Calcium & Magnesium

As always I recommend that you meet your nutritional goals with the foods you eat as much as possible.  However, this is increasingly difficult in today’s world.  The body can only use things that become water-soluble. Many pills, capsules, and tablets pass through the body without becoming water-soluble. What a waste! Liquid minerals are already in water-soluble, easily absorbable, ionic liquid form. They are ready for the cells in your body to utilize!  I love liquid minerals because they are so ready for the body to absorb.  Butterfly Express also carries a calcium magnesium supplement.  This is a very good supplement because it is a liquid softgel.  It is my personal opinion that you will still absorb more of the liquid but the supplement has the added benefit of vitamin D and zinc.  It is also very convenient.  Both are good choices and it comes down mostly to preference.

March Oils

These March specials were chosen because they are my favorite liver, lymph, and allergy-improving essential oils.

LeAustyn is one of my favorite lymphatic blends.  When I first started using it I would put it on before I exercised.  It would give me energy and make getting through my exercise easier.  I put it on a few times at night and quickly discovered that it gave me energy and made it hard to sleep.  I use LeAustyn in the morning to keep my lymph happy and I use LeEndoRelief at night so I can sleep.

LeAustyn improves circulation and increases blood flow, and oxygen to cells. This blend contains essential oils that are known for being gently stimulating, raising energy levels while encouraging lymphatic drainage. Regulating our endocrine system can have many health benefits. These include improving metabolism, helping to maintain our internal clock, and controlling blood pressure, and heart rate.

The endocrine system influences every cell, organ, and function in the body. The endocrine system regulates appetite, nutrient absorption, and nutrient storage.

LeEndoRelief aids emotional health by strengthening and balancing the wide range of organs and glands that make up the endocrine system. As our bodies and minds begin to function better, we feel more secure in ourselves. We can establish (or reestablish) boundaries between ourselves and others. This does not mean that we become prickly or rude; it enables us to be tactful and firm while still being kind and concerned.

With improved endocrine function comes improved vitality and metabolism. Our weight naturally balances and we have enough energy to last through the day, and into the night, if we need to.

As an endocrine system balancer, LeEndoRelief can have a beneficial effect on any ailment that is related to endocrine organs such as the thyroid, pancreas, pineal and pituitary glands, parathyroid, thymus, and adrenal glands.

LeSeasons is amazing for clearing out the sinuses and for relieving a sinus headache. This blend should be used for colds, allergies, sinus congestion, and sinus headaches. LeSeasons helps the lymph system drain and strengthens the immune system. The cool mint sensation of LeSeasons can help lessen the pain of sore throats, body aches and pains, and even help cool a fever.
LeSeasons is a great example of synergy, illustrating how single essential oils blend together to become more than the sum of their parts.
All essential oils impact emotions, and while LeSeasons is primarily a physical blend it will help bring clarity of thought, help improve attention span, help us analyze our resentments, and then help us let go of that which no longer serves us well.  This is a stimulating blend and can bring a renewed sense of energy.

Grapefruit is an excellent detoxifier for the lymphatic system and also aids the kidneys in maintaining proper fluid levels throughout the body. This oil contains a high percentage of limonene. Preliminary animal studies indicate that limonene protects against pancreatic, stomach, colon, skin, and liver cancers. A study done at Brigham Young University showed an 80% cancer cell growth inhibition. Purdue University reported that limonene helps 80% of carcinomas in breast cancer to regress.

Grapefruit detoxifies the lymphatic system. This makes it a useful tonic for many body systems. It is specific for water retention and the dissolving of cellulite. It aids with gallstones as well as with kidney and liver disorders. Grapefruit can relieve a migraine headache and return the energy system to normal after long flights. It is one of the best oils for premenstrual water retention and headache.

Peppermint oil stimulates the mind, increasing the ability to focus. When inhaled, it restores the sense of taste by stimulating the trigeminal nerve. Oddly, inhaling peppermint oil can also curb the appetite.

The aroma of peppermint oil is like a rush of fresh energy into the system. Surprisingly, the aroma allows us to relax instead of letting anxiety build up in our body or mind. Peppermint oil is specific for people who move between highs and lows, energetically or emotionally. It is renowned for its action on the digestive system and its use in bowel disorders.

Peppermint oil is strongly anti-inflammatory and analgesic. It increases circulation. All varieties of Peppermint essential oil are useful for muscle pain, inflamed joints, and arthritis. The anti-inflammatory properties make Peppermint essential oil supportive of prostate function.

The impact on physical health from a strong nervous system and an active lymph system cannot be over-emphasized. Sage can strengthen the pelvic chakras, and the organs within it  It gives vigor and strength to the vital centers of the body. With nerves, lymph, and pelvic organs being strengthened, it is easy to see why Sage has long been considered one of the “master healers.”

Sage is believed to contain constituents that stimulate the secretion of progesterone-testosterone and keep their activities balanced. It is useful for most glandular disorders, any complaint related to lymph congestion, and any disorders related to nerve deterioration or prolonged nervous stress.

Sage also clears away cellular debris and strengthens cell wall integrity, making it useful for arthritis, dandruff, hair loss, skin conditions, gingivitis, sprains, and firming tissues.

Herbal Corner

This month the herbal corner includes three herbal formulas.  LC (formerly Liver Cleanse), LT (formerly Lymph Tonic), and TLC (formerly Total Lymph Care).  These are three great herbal formulas.  They come as herb packs so you can make them into teas or your own tinctures.  They also come in tincture form.  LC and TLC also come in a glycerin base that is great for children.

LC (formerly Liver Cleanse)

Beet Root, Bilberry Leaf, Burdock, Dandelion Root, Devil’s Claw, Fennel, Gotu Kola, Hawthorn Berries, Oregon Grape, Plantain, Poke Root, Red Clover, Thyme, Yarrow

LC aids the liver in secreting the bile into the colon which is necessary for digestive function. When the liver is sluggish, the result is indigestion, constipation, fatigue, headaches, and a long list of other problems that are somewhat unique to each individual. It is recommended to strengthen and support the kidneys and colon while working with the liver by using either KB or KT for the kidneys, CD for the colon, and RC (formerly Red Clover combination) to keep the blood clean of toxins and impurities. Devil’s Claw and Bilberry are specific to sugar problems associated with liver damage or clogging.

LT (formerly Lymph Tonic)

Brigham Tea, Echinacea, Fenugreek, Lobelia, Oregon Grape, Yucca

LT along with infection-fighting tinctures can be of great benefit in times of illness or whenever the lymphatic system seems to be clogged or needing assistance. Why is a healthy lymph system important?  There are many reasons!  Among these are 1) provides immune response by producing lymphocytes; 2) traps and destroys foreign microorganisms; 3) maintains sufficient blood volume by returning fluids that have leaked from tissues back into the bloodstream; 4) and, very importantly, eliminates cellular debris that occurs whenever the body sustains any type of injury.  Most of us, living in our modern environment and eating quite a bit of processed foods, are in need of assistance with lymph drainage.

TLC (formerly Total Lymph Care)

Burdock, Cleavers, Echinacea Angustifolia, Echinacea Purpurea, Ginger, Gotu Kola, Horse Chestnut, Olive Leaf, Red Clover, Red Root, Stillingia, Yerba Mate

LT, described above, is predominantly meant to support and strengthen the lymph system.  The TLC formula contains additional ingredients that are known to cleanse the liver, and the lymphatic system, and act as a blood cleanser.  Cleansing and supporting the lymphatic system bring about improved blood flow to every organ and system of the body.  Other ingredients are well known for their antioxidant properties.  Why are antioxidants important?  According to the Mayo Clinic, antioxidants may protect our cells against damage by free radicals.  Free radicals are said to play a role in the development of heart disease, cancer, and other nasty diseases.   TLC will stimulate the immune system and can be used to help prevent illness or be helpful when recovering from illness.

This is an excellent formula to add to any cleanse program. Use with CD (formerly Colon Digestive, KB (formerly Kidney Bladder), LC (formerly Liver Cleanse), and RC for a wonderful whole-body cleanse.

Featured Blessed Waters

Check out the 11 blessed waters that target allergies, liver, and lymph. If you have not yet tried blessed waters allergies are a great reason to get acquainted. They can be such a great blessing for the liver and lymph as well.

An allergy is an inappropriate response by the body to any substance that is not harmful to most people. The immune system, which is supposed to protect us from toxins and pathogens, wrongly identifies a substance as harmful to us and goes into action. The response can be anywhere from mildly annoying to symptoms severe enough to create the sometimes life-threatening symptoms of anaphylactic shock. These types of allergies grow worse with each reaction; they are NOT something that a person typically grows out of.

Allergies #1 (7X)

This is a great remedy to use for shellfish allergies or when you are unsure of the cause of your allergy.

GRINDELIA ROBUSTA (rosin-wood) The symptoms here are a full range of allergic responses such as lung disorders, respiratory distress, asthma, rashes, and itching eyes.
URTICA URENS (stinging nettle) This polycrest remedy has a wide range of severe allergic reactions in its symptom picture and is especially suited for use with bee stings and for the ill effects of eating shellfish. In the case of severe reactions, consideration should be given to taking this remedy (Urtica Urens) in a higher potency as a single, rather than a blended, low-potency  remedy.  Unusual and noteworthy symptoms include chronic gout, joint pain, hives, itchy blisters on fingers and hands, and burning pain in the throat.
HYDROPHYLLUM VIRGINICUM (Virginia waterleaf) Hydrophyllum’s range of action includes symptoms relating to the eyes. Among them will be swollen eyelids, eye inflammation, itching, and sensitivity to light.

Allergies #2 (6X)

This remedy is for neuralgic headaches, bites, stings, and coughs.

GUACO (climbing hempweed) Guaco grows in tropical areas and has a local reputation for relief from the bites of scorpions and snakes. This remedy acts predominantly on the nervous system. Outstanding symptoms are pain along the spine constriction and a feeling of paralysis in the throat.
CADMIUM METALLICUM (cadmium metal) Cadmium markedly affects the eyes with light sensitivity, burning, and inflammation occurring. There may be extreme neuralgic headaches, difficult respiration with coughs that are mucus-filled—sometimes blood-streaked—with bronchial and pulmonary distress. Chronic dermatitis is often seen.
EUPHORBIUM OFFICINARUM (gum euphorbium) The symptoms picture include hay fever, headache, inflammation of the eyelids with itching, constant dry cough with a hollow sound, dryness of the mouth with a white-coated tongue, and ringing in the ears—especially when sneezing and at night.

Allergies #3 (9X)

Allergic reactions that mimic the common cold and affect the kidneys or heart.

APIS MELLIFICA (honey bee) Allergy symptoms of Apis include burning, itching, and inflammation of serous membranes, excessive swelling with edema, kidney distress, and heart troubles. Apis can be useful for both mild situations and serious allergic shock reactions.
ALLIUM CEPA (red onion) Allium covers more symptoms of common colds and hay fever than any other common remedy. The eyes feel as though you are cutting up raw onions at the moment. There will be increased secretions from mucus membranes, hacking cough, dripping nose, sneezing, fever with thirst, hoarseness, and a sensation of a lump in the throat.

Allergies #4 (6X)

Specifically for allergies to animal hair but often useful for other allergies when the symptom picture fits the allergies the person is experiencing.

GRINDELIA ROBUSTA (rosin-wood) The symptoms here are a full range of allergic responses such as lung disorders, respiratory distress, asthma, rashes, and itching eyes.
PINUS SYLVESTRIS (Scotch pine) The picture of Pinus is predominantly lung symptoms similar to what is experienced with bronchitis. A lot of mucus but the accompanying cough is short and dry. There are feelings of tightness in the chest with impaired ability to breathe.
VERATRUM ALBUM (white hellebore) Veratrum symptoms always include profound prostration and near-total collapse with extreme coldness and weakness. There may be spasmodic contractions of the muscles of the chest. With veratrum-type symptoms, everything comes on suddenly.
GELSEMIUM SEMPERVIRENS (yellow jasmine) The most notable symptom of Gelsemium is burning in the larynx and chest when coughing. There will be extreme itching of the skin but there may or may not be any eruptions. The person will begin trembling with weak, aching muscles as the reaction progresses.
PSORINUM (scabies nosode) Psorinum is specific for allergies and hay fever which are a family inheritance related to the Psora miasm. Offensive, foul-smelling discharges of all sorts will be experienced. Hot sensation in chest with a great deal of pain. The keynote Psora pattern of remedies is that the remedy works well for a time but then fails to produce effective results with the need to find another remedy and then another in order to keep healing progressing.

Allergies #5 (8X)

Particularly for reactions to mold, yeast, or dust.

SILICA TERRA (pure flint) Bruised pain in the chest when coughing or breathing deeply. Itchy eruptions, mostly on the chest area, and chronic skin rashes appearing at any time. Asthma-like symptoms as a result of allergies, usually worse in the early fall. Violent cough, especially when lying down. Chronic catarrh and coryza in the nose and sinuses.
PHOSPHORUS (the element) Phosphorus ailments can be insidious—gradually increasing in their effect on the entire system. The allergic reactions of Phosphorus consist of irritation, inflammation, and degeneration of the mucus membranes. There may be a feeling of a great weight on the chest, with difficulty breathing and feelings of heat throughout the body. There is frequent itching and burning of the eyes with sensitivity to wind.
HISTAMINUM MURIATICUM (histamine) Allergic reactions with asthma-like symptoms, including bronchial and respiratory irritation are the keynotes of Histaminum. There will be dryness of the mucus membranes of the nose and throat. Other symptoms include edema, hives, itching, and redness of the eyelids.
RANUNCULUS SCELERATUS (marsh buttercup) Look for the characteristic mapped or peeled-looking tongue with rawness and burning that extends into the throat. The person will be experiencing fluent coryza with much sneezing. This formula also contains remedies made from a variety of molds, yeasts, and dusts not identified specifically by the manufacturer.

Allergies #6 (6X)

For allergic reactions to and liver toxicity caused by chemical inhalants.

EUPHRASIA OFFICINALIS (eyebright) Euphrasia is specific for allergic reactions with a pronounced action on the eyes. Symptoms include eye irritation with discharge and copious watering, glandular swellings, and very offensive sweat as the body detoxifies.
WYETHIA HELENOIDES (poison weed) With Wyethia, some reactions target the throat but these symptoms then drop quickly into the chest. Swelling of the glands in the neck with a characteristic itching of the upper palate is also seen.
NAPHTHALINUM (tar camphor) Symptoms of Naphthalinum include inflamed, bloodshot eyes of hay fever. Attacks of sneezing, skin rashes, eczema, and psoriasis also occur.
HISTAMINUM MURIATICUM (histamine) Symptoms of Histaminum include allergic reactions with asthma-like symptoms including bronchial irritation and dryness of the mucus membranes of the nose and throat. Other symptoms include edema, hives, itching, and redness of the eyelids.
NATRUM MURIATICUM (sodium chloride) Natrum displays the usual symptoms of hay fever and allergies with the additional discomfort of blinding headaches, fluttering and palpitations of the heart with constriction of the chest.  High blood pressure will usually accompany the other symptoms.
TABACUM NICOTIANA (tobacco) This remedy is for serious, advancing toward anaphylactic shock, symptoms of severe allergic reactions.  Tension of the coronary arteries with intermittent pulse will be seen.  The person will experience icy coldness with sweat, fainting, and nausea. Prostration of the muscular system and mental confusion is a possibility if things are allowed to get worse without intervention.  Medical intervention may be needed if the symptoms do not immediately subside.
ARSENICUM ALBUM Arsenicum is the first remedy to reach for in any acute ailment whether it is a cold, hay fever, influenza, or food poisoning. Shortness of breath is a keynote symptom with extreme restlessness, or anxiety and restlessness, presenting alternately.

Allergies #7 (6X)

Predominantly for tree pollen allergies.

CARDUUS MARIANUS (St. Mary’s thistle) The major focus of this remedy is liver dysfunction which, of course, often plays a role in allergic reactions. Other keynote symptoms are pressure in eyelids and eyeballs, and pressing pain in the throat on speaking or swallowing. Swallowing is usually very painful with a painful burning sensation.
EQUISETUM HYEMALE (horsetail) Horsetail, herbally, is a remedy for kidney issues and the same is true of the homeopathic form of this wonderful herb. When the kidneys are eliminating properly and maintaining proper water levels in the body, allergic reactions are less likely and less severe if they do occur. Sharp pain in the outer angle of the eye—more often in the right one are keynotes.  There may also be a sharp sticking pain in the throat.
IRIS VERSICOLOR (blue flag) Symptoms include burning of the mouth, tongue, and throat, redness and inflammation of the eyelids with burning in the inner canthus of the eyes, and vision disturbances with headache.
RANUNCULUS SCELERATUS (marsh buttercup) The focus of Ranunculus for allergies is pain in the chest/lung area that is worse for deep breathing and a raw and burning tongue with pain in the throat.
ZINCUM PHOSPHORICUM (zinc phosphide) With Zincum allergies there will be foggy vision. Zincum is also a tonic for the kidneys and useful for lung issues and asthma-type symptoms.

Allergies #8 (6X)

Hayfever with headache and glandular swelling or sweating

EUPHRASIA OFFICINALIS (eyebright) Allergic reactions with a specific action on the eyes are typical. There will be eye irritation with discharge and copious watering. There may also be glandular swellings and very offensive sweat as the body attempts to detoxify from the poisons that have been inhaled.
PSEUDO-NARCISSUS (daffodil) The Pseudo-narcissus picture includes allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, frontal headache, increased pulse, increased flow of saliva, severe coryza of the nose and the opposite symptoms of dryness in the throat rather than an increased flow of saliva.
RANUNCULUS SCELERATUS (marsh buttercup) A keynote of Ranunculus sceleratus is the severe burning and scraping sensations in the throat. There may be fluent coryza with attacks of sneezing accompanied by headaches in which the head feels as if it were too large.
SULPHURICUM ACIDUM (Sulphuric acid) Various types of coryza from the nose with a copious flow that is thin, watery discharge that is a bit lemony is a major symptom here. Alternatively, as so often happens in the symptom pictures of homeopathic remedies, the symptoms may present the opposite pattern of dryness in the nose with loss of the senses of smell and taste. The symptoms that respond to Sulphuric acidum often include itching all over with boils or abscesses on the skin.

Glandular/Lymph #1 (8X)

This remedy contains many single remedies.  Each one pertains in some way to lymphatic congestion and glandular swelling. Lymph nodes become swollen, tender, or red most often as a result of bacteria or viruses. Lymph glands play a vital role in the body’s ability to fight off infections. This remedy is excellent at reducing inflammation and thickening of the glands. It can help eliminate infections found in the glandular or lymphatic systems. The glandular and lymphatic systems affect every other system in the body. This remedy will boost energy levels, stimulate lymphatic drainage, gently detoxify and support the body towards healing.

Glandular/Lymph #2 (8X)

This remedy is indicated for lymphatic congestion, inflamed mucus membranes, and glandular swelling. This remedy is useful for pelvic problems that can be indicative of glandular and lymphatic issues. It is helpful for hormonal problems associated with lymphatic congestion, such as painful periods or cramps. This remedy may be helpful for allergies due to improving lymph flow which allows the body to deal with allergens better. Euphrasia officinalis contained in this blend is an excellent remedy for eye disorders so this remedy may prove helpful for eye conjunctiva and may help reestablish good lymph flow around the eyes.

Liver Meridian (6X)

Liver Meridian Balance:  Happy and cheerful, full of joy
Out of Balance – Feelings of anger and annoyance all the time toward everyone and everything.

Meridians are the pathways of communication between the various parts of the human body/mind/soul complex. These meridians channel an invisible nutritive energy known to the Chinese as chi. The ch’ energy enters the body through specific points and flows to deeper organ structures. Meridians bring life-giving nourishment with a gentle subtle energetic nature. A strong and balanced flow of energy through the body’s meridians is important to optimal health. Blocked meridians create an imbalanced energy flow to organs, which contributes to disease states within the body.

LeLivN

LeLivN is one of the great blood and liver cleansing blends. As a result, we can recover our normal resilience and equilibrium when stress or illness has robbed us of focus and direction. This blend can help us be less frustrated and upset by the people and events in our lives. It helps us turn our energy and ideas into productivity and accomplishment.

LeLivN is designed to help us digest and eliminate fatty cells and the load of toxins from the liver that fatty cells hold. This cleaner internal environment created by LeLivN ensures that the new cells created in the liver are healthy and better able to carry oxygen and nutrients to the cells of muscles, organs, and connective tissues.

The effects of the extra nutrients and oxygen in the body are far-reaching. For example, a healthier liver, cleaner blood, and healthier cells result in the lowering of cholesterol and triglyceride levels and can have a positive influence on type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.

LeLivN improves immune function and increases energy levels and stamina.

Goldenrod

The Swiss Pharmacopia lists Goldenrod as a support for the cardiovascular system and useful for tachycardia and arrhythmia. This pharmacopia also credits Goldenrod with strengthening the urinary tract and improving liver function. Goldenrod, like Ledum, affects and diminishes unwanted fatty cells in the liver. Goldenrod is also reputed to aid lymphatic drainage and to be effective for sinus and bronchial mucous and in the relief of hay fever symptoms.

As Goldenrod strengthens the cardiovascular and urinary systems, it brings to us an ability to take charge of our own emotional and physical health. Goldenrod is emotionally and psychologically strengthening.

The combination of nervine, cardiovascular, and urinary tract properties make Goldenrod a natural choice for the control of high blood pressure.

Ledum

Ledum has a high sesquiterpene count. Essential oils containing sesquiterpenes cross the blood/brain barrier carrying nutrients and oxygen to the brain. These oils are very calming. This effect is felt, not just by the nervous system, but throughout the body.

Ledum acts as an enzyme to remedy liver dysfunction and aid in liver detoxification. Its action on the liver sets off a chain reaction of improvement throughout the organs of the body. A stronger liver creates a balanced thyroid, a stronger immune system, better-functioning kidneys, and clearer skin.

Ledum has been used in programs for weight management, obesity, edema, and water retention. A review of recent literature indicates that Ledum may be even more anti-carcinogenic and anti-tumoral than Frankincense.

Carrier Oils

Carrier or base oils are often applied in conjunction with an essential oil. The common industry term for carrier oils is fixed oils. These oils are made from vegetables, nuts, or seeds and often have therapeutic properties of their own.   The carrier oils used in therapeutic settings should be cold-pressed and organically grown rather than produced by chemical methods. This is an important distinction, as some of the carrier oil will be absorbed into the body along with the essential oil.

Because carrier oils are made from seeds, vegetables, and especially nuts allergic reactions can occur.  You can check our allergy information for carrier oils here.

Why Use A Carrier Oil

Carrier oils are used for several different reasons. One major reason is that pure essential oils are often too concentrated to be applied undiluted to the skin. Adding essential oils to a carrier also allows the oil to be spread over a larger application area and to be absorbed more evenly. Many essential oils are quite expensive, and because they are so highly concentrated, one or two drops may be all that you need. The use of a smaller quantity is often more beneficial than a larger quantity and is certainly less likely to cause any type of reaction.

My father explains one of the needs for carrier oil when using essential oils in this way. Imagine putting an alcohol-based primer on hot asphalt before painting it. That would be almost impossible since the alcohol would evaporate almost before it touched the road. Essential oils behave similarly. They are made of several different constituents, some of which evaporate at lower temperatures and faster rates than others. Place these essential oils on the skin (90 – 95 degrees) and the higher, more volatile notes are gone before they can be absorbed. A carrier oil stabilizes the essential oil, holding onto all the constituents until they can be absorbed. The chemical composition of the oil remains intact.

Each carrier, or protein oil as they are sometimes referred to, has its own characteristics and ways of reacting to the various essential oils. Because of the different parts of plants used to make Carrier Oils, like seeds and nuts, people with allergies to these things should be careful which carrier oil they choose.
