Energy and Energy Protection

‘Energy and Energy Protection’. What an interesting and fitting topic to discuss with Foot Zone Therapists. Why do I say this? I want to tell three short—very short—stories to explain.

First story: For a short time during my childhood, my mother experienced some very difficult health issues. The severe anemia she suffered, as well as the pain she endured with repeated miscarriages and surgeries, resulted in stress, tension, and—sometimes—irritability and impatience. It didn’t take much self-awareness, even as a child, to realize that tension in the home had a profound effect on the other members of my family! I even asked my father once why I had to behave ‘like an adult’ when my mother didn’t have to. I will always remember his words to me. “Dear daughter,” he said, “Because you can and, right now, with your mother’s health as it is, she cannot.”

What does this first story have to do with energy protection and zoning feet? People come to us seeking answers for health issues they are having. Many times, those issues come with emotional baggage connected to or resulting from the stress they are creating in their lives. As a young zone therapist, I didn’t expect that. I didn’t even recognize, at first, that it was happening. My husband, most helpfully, pointed it out to me!

My dear, patient husband explained to me one day that when he saw a certain car pull into the driveway carrying a young couple for zones, he absolutely avoided coming home until I had finished up with them and they had been gone for some time. That astonished me, especially when he explained that, after this couple left, I was extraordinarily critical of him, discontented, and difficult to live with for a time! They had always seemed so polite to each other to me. I had not recognized the ‘politeness’ for the underlying stress and contention that later led to their not-amicable-in-the-least divorce.

A short while later, my husband pointed out something else to me that I had not recognized or considered either.

My husband pointed out to me that if a client came with a headache (or a cough or just about anything else), they left without it at the end of the Zone session, but that I struggled with it, sometimes even for several days. I realized that he was absolutely right about that a great deal of the time.

I was already playing with (my name for blending) essential oils when I learned to zone feet. I immediately set out to make a blend using essential oils whose aromas were described, around the world, as having ‘energy protecting or ‘repelling’ properties. The Butterfly Express essential oil blend I called LeBenediction was the result. It took several attempts at blending to finally come up with this powerfully effective blend! Why the name LeBenediction? Because, previously, prayer for protection and healing was the way I was coping with whatever I picked up from a zone. (And more than a bit of prayer went into figuring out the proper oils and proportions of those oils for this blend!)

In this article, I will give a description of LeBenediction and of the newer blend, created by a very talented employee, LeGuardian. At the end of the article, I will try to contrast and explain when it might be best to use one or the other of these two blends.

Foot Zone Focus – January 2026

I have been a teacher all of my life! I was given the responsibility to lead the music in my LDS primary meetings when I was 11 years old and should have been just an attendant. By the time I was 14 years old, I was also the teacher of a Sunday School class of 4-year old children. (Primary was on Mondays in those long ago days, so it was possible for me to do both!) I loved those callings!

What does this have to do with this newsletter highlighting Butterfly Express, LLC specials for other Foot Zone specialists? Not much, maybe, except a desire to share some of what I have learned over these many intervening years!. I am getting older by the day, and sharing what I have learned, often by hard experience, is the best of the things that fill my days!

I have been zoning feet for almost 30 years, guessing as best I can about the ages of my children at the time. Although our family was already using both herbal and homeopathic remedies, learning to ‘zone’ feet made a significant impact on the health of my family, just as it had done for me when I began getting zoned regularly a few months before begging to be taught to do it myself. My husband’s health was very sketchy at the time, as it had been for many years already. I believe, as I did then, that regular foot zones kept him with us. His health, even now at 73 years old, is better than it was then!

After some deliberation and visiting with an employee who also knows the Zone, we decided to feature the Synergy Kit to offer these ‘whole-body’ oils to zone therapists at a discount, along with a bit of information about various body systems and the essential oil blends, mostly formulated by me, that I have found useful during foot zones over the years.

July – First Aid

Before we begin today’s discussion of essential oils, herbs, and Blessed Waters (homeopathics), I would like to provide a little bit of extraneous, but I feel quite necessary, information. I searched both the Butterfly Express and Butterfly Expressions sites and was disappointed to find that the information I have written and taught in various places over the years on the topic I am about to summarize briefly below is not to be found on either site. It doesn’t seem to be in any of the books I have written, either. (However, I made only a rudimentary search, so . . .) If this oversight is actually real, I intend to remedy the situation as soon as I can find a minute (or a few hours, as it will likely be).

Two key factors in understanding essential oils are recognizing the differences in healing properties among plant families and understanding how various parts of the same plant can offer different therapeutic benefits. It probably doesn’t surprise you that the medicinal properties of the conifer family (spruce trees, for example) are very different from the healing properties of the various herbaceous or ornamental plants (such as the Lauraceae, Labiate, Compositae, and Umbelliferae families).

Even within the same plant family, whether an essential oil has been created from the wood, the seed, the root, or the leaves, dramatically affects the healing properties of that essential oil, and does so to an incredible degree.

A well-built blend allows us to combine, synergistically, the benefits of several plant families as well as the healing capacities of various plant parts, all with the goal of increasing the capabilities of each single essential oil. Just as a chocolate cake is more pleasing—and tastes better—than the varying ingredients separately, an essential oil blend has the potential of being so much more than any of the single oil ingredients by themselves

Let’s keep this information in mind as we discuss various essential oil blends in the pages of this (and every) newsletter.

February – Depression and Mental Health

I was absolutely delighted to see what had been chosen for this month’s topic! February can be such a hard month for so many people, and this coming one promises to be harder than usual for me and those around me. As some of you may have heard, our family experienced the devastating loss of a dear loved one recently. I am very grateful for the opportunity to refresh my own mind, study the remedies that deal with depression, grief, and other emotional and mental issues a bit deeper and then share with you what I know and learn. The use of some of these remedies has already had a profound effect on my own mental health recently.

On a lighter note, my older brother, an advanced mathematics professor, told me once that his classes in February were simply used to play fun (and mildly educational) number/math games. Why? Because, he said, students are just up to too much else in February and they need a bit of fun to cheer them up! I suspect that the darker days of winter and, perhaps even in sunny climes, the let down following the holiday season affects us all.   See the full list of topics.

November – Gratitude, Abundance and Health

My husband and I (he does this better than I do sometimes) look at the plants—every one, and perhaps the rocks and minerals, too—as personal messages from a loving Heavenly Father. Because He understood that we would not always ask for, or even recognize His help in our lives, He endowed the various plants with His own healing capacities and invited us to partake of them to balance and heal our own lives. Plants affect us, not just on a physical (vitamin and molecular) level, but on a spiritual plane as well. It is impossible to use an herbal remedy or and essential oil with an intent to heal the physical body without partaking of its ability to bring light, wisdom, healing, and peace into your life. This peace and wisdom will be multiplied many times over if your use of the herbs, the essential oils, and the blessed water/homeopathic remedies with gratitude to the Creator and an acknowledgment of the role of the atonement in the healing of both physical and emotional (spiritual) pain. Embracing an attitude of GRATITUDE opens the door to ABUNDANCE, allowing us to fully experience the gifts of HEALTH and healing that surround us.  See the full list of topics.

June – Chakras, Meridians, and Heart Health

Heart and CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH (or Cardiovascular ill-health that I experienced as a younger woman) are topics I am delighted to share knowledge and experience about whenever possible. Many, if not most, of the essential oils, blessed waters, herbs, and minerals discussed here were part of my walk away from serious and scary episodes with my heart to the far better health I enjoy now. Assisting with information gathering and contributing to this blog has been a joy to me. It is my hope that the information provided here brings knowledge and, as a result, relief and better health to you and those you love. Alternative remedies such as those discussed here were such a blessing in my own life!

May – Emotional Support & Resilience

I have had several rather personal experiences of late that have shown me just how important it is to focus on EMOTIONAL SUPPORT and RESILIENCE to be better prepared for the trials that this life will inevitably throw at us. I am super excited to announce the two new essential oil blends with this very focus in mind. The Resilience has become one that sits on my desk and is used daily. Many of the other things we will talk about on this blog are long-time favorites of mine. I am so grateful for these herbs, oils, and blessed waters.

February – Boosting Mental Health

February is one of the hardest times of the year for many people, myself included. Depression and other mental challenges are often worse at this time of year.  As a result, it is particularly important for each of us to give some focus to Boosting Mental Health. It is important to make sure we are giving ourselves, and those we care for, the nutrients necessary and the emotional support that will help us through the sometimes dismal days of winter.  Essential oils, herbs, and homeopathics can do so much for each of us in these areas. I am frequently grateful for my herbal upbringing, particularly at this time of year and during times of these types of struggles.

November – Women’s Health

In November we will be talking about Women’s Health. Sometimes as women, we tend to take care of everyone else and put ourselves at the bottom of the list.   It has been really fun to focus on women and their special and unique needs.  There is something for every woman in this blog.  From the young girl preparing to start to cycle to the seasoned woman in menopause.  I hope this is a wonderful read for you that will improve your quality of life as well as the lives of other women in your life.  See the full list of topics.
