BBL Tincrure

BBL Tincture

BBL is made with Lobelia and combined with Blue Vervain, Blue Cohosh, Black Cohosh, and Skullcap to produce an antispasmodic formula, nervine, and pain reliever. Antispasmodic means that BBL will provide relief from anything that manifests with spasms or pain with a pulsing quality. Examples might be coughing, muscle or abdominal cramping, or any kind of pain that pulses—such as toothache, earache, certain types of stomachache, pleurisy, and boils.

BBL is much more than a pain reliever and antispasmodic. It is also a nervine formula, which means that it also helps to rebuild damaged nerves wherever they may be in the body. BBL has a special affinity for the spine, the motor nerves at the base of the skull, and the brain.

As a pain reliever, BBL should be applied externally to the skin around broken bones, smashed fingers, or strained shoulders. A cloth soaked in BBL and applied as a poultice can relieve even extreme pain. A few drops, in water, should also be taken frequently by mouth.

I smashed the index finger on my right hand thoroughly one day and the pain was excruciating. After I put Arnica oil on it—for the swelling. I poured some BBL tincture into a small paper cup and put my finger in it. The pain was manageable that way and within a few hours most of the discoloration, swelling, and pain were gone.

A dropperful of BBL, taken at bedtime or added to the tub for a relaxing bath is one of my favorite ways to relax into a good night’s sleep. There is nothing narcotic, however, in the effects of BBL. There will be no stuporous type feeling, just relaxation and rest.

BBL can be taken internally and applied topically as a liniment for muscle cramps. Topical application does not require the giving of a stimulant. In fact, when using BBL for its relaxant properties, stimulant herbs such as Cayenne, Ginger, or Peppermint should not be used.

A few drops of BBL, and EO oil, are very good in the ear for earaches. The BBL acts as a pain reliever while carrying the medicinal properties of the oil more deeply and more rapidly into the affected and painful areas. The addition of BBL increases the antibacterial action of the Garlic and herbs in the EO oil.

Place two drops of EO oil in the ear, followed by 2 or 3 drops of BBL. I always warm both the BBL and the oil, if I possibly can. It is not fun to have something cold dropped into your ear, especially when the ear is hurting already. Put a small piece of a cotton ball in on top of the remedies.

A couple of dropperfuls of BBL in a tub of warm water relieves cramps, including really nasty menstrual ones. Taking it by mouth at the same time is also helpful. Used as a liniment on the abdomen, or on any muscle that is cramping, it brings almost instant relief.

A few drops of BBL should always be considered for convulsions in children. When working with children I usually use the BBL that is made with a glycerin base rather than alcohol. The alcohol formula is best for use in the tub, although you can use the glycerite. The glycerite leaves just a little bit of a sticky feeling on the skin after the bath. For convulsions—and the prevention of convulsions during a fever—I use a few drops of glycerin BBL by mouth and a bath in lukewarm water at the same time.

BBL is also excellent for the treatment of asthma—both as a way of dealing with an attack and as part of a long-term, overall program. Lobelia, added to any respiratory formula, will facilitate the clearing of the passages.

CalciumMagnesium

Calcium and Magnesium

Calcium and Magnesium are two very important minerals where muscles are concerned.  You see Calcium is used to cause muscles to tighten or flex.  Magnesium is used to release the muscle.  When we work out, play sports, or are active in any way we use calcium and magnesium.  Often when we have muscle aches and pains, taking calcium and magnesium can be of great benefit.  I prefer taking my minerals in liquid form because liquid minerals are already in water-soluble, ionic liquid form.  They are ready for the vells in your body to use!

CALCIUM

Uses: Calcium causes muscles to tighten. (Magnesium causes muscles to relax)  Calcium creates strong bones, stimulates new cells, and helps maintain the pH of the body. Assimilation of food is dependent on pH. Calcium is vital to the absorption of Iron.  Calcium is one of the first elements depleted by insufficient dietary nutrients, it is one of the most essential of the major biochemical elements present in the body. It supports bones, teeth, nails, nerves, muscles, and tissues. Calcium is needed in every organ of the body.  It promotes repair processes and aids normal body functions. Symptoms of deficiency include muscle cramps and spasms, numbness and tingling, fatigue, abnormal heart rhythm, seizures, osteoporosis, dry skin, confusion and memory loss, PMS, tooth decay, gum disease, and Rickets.
Deficiency: Can cause us to not sleep or sleep restlessly. Charley Horses and restless legs are often caused by calcium deficiency. Sleep is very important because that is when you produce growth hormones.
Emotionally: Calcium works with serotonin to reduce stress and anxiety.  Deficiency has been linked to irritability, anxiety, anger and
Sources: Milk and all dairy
Absorption: Calcium dissolves in the stomach and is absorbed through the lining of the small intestine.  The body requires Vitamin D to absorb calciumCalcium deficiency almost always goes hand in hand with magnesium deficiency.

MAGNESIUM

Uses: Magnesium causes muscles to relax (Calcium causes muscles to tighten) Magnesium is the first defense against chemicals.  It supports normal nerve and muscle function, aids digestion by activating enzymes for protein and carbohydrate metabolism, relaxes the body into deeper sleep, supports normal heart and liver function, and may help reduce inflammation in muscles, joints, and tissues. Magnesium potentially aids in over 300 body processes! Magnesium is also necessary for the absorption of calcium and other minerals.
Deficiency: Irritability, excitability, cramps, fatigue, convulsions, depression, muscle weakness, muscle cramps, tremors, calcification of tissues and small arteries, asthma, anorexia, menstrual migraines, heartbeat irregularities, and protein synthesis problems.
Emotionally: Everything is too much. Overwhelmed.  Also linked to anxiety and depression.
Sources: Chocolate (the darker the better), almonds and walnuts, dark green leafy veggies.  Dark green veggies should be steamed to release the oxalic acid. Oxalic acid blocks the absorption of calcium and magnesium.

Hemp Essential Oil

Hemp has recently become legal to sell again in Idaho.  I have really missed this amazing oil and I am so glad to see it coming back both in oil form and in carrier oil form.

Hemp has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, and Crohn’s disease. Along with its anti-inflammatory effects Hemp is said to have direct pain-killing properties and is used for controlling pain in nerves, joints, and muscles. This is a great oil to reach for to reduce headaches and dull the ache of migraines.

Hemp essential oil is renowned for its ability to reduce anxiety and depression. One of the main components in Hemp essential oil is myrcene, a chemical compound that has been found in medical studies to carry antidepressant and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties.

Hemp essential oil is very relaxing and is used as a sedative to treat insomnia and to improve the quality and depth of sleep. This oil is used for psoriasis and eczema and is said to be very beneficial to the skin, protecting the skin and slowing down signs of aging while stimulating the growth of new skin cells and shedding dead cells. It has also been used to prevent and treat glaucoma and macular degeneration.

May Oils

The three blends and three singles that were chosen for May are beneficial for pain, muscles, and nerves.

Quiet Essence Essential Oil

The Valerian Root in this blend contains some volatile components not found in any other essential oil currently produced for aromatherapy. These components are useful for an incredibly long list of things related to nerves and nervous tension. Combining, as is done in this blend, Lavender, Orange Sweet, and the amazing nervine, St. John’s Wort, creates a blend that is an effective relief for headache, irritability, premenstrual symptoms, any type of cramping or muscle spasms, insomnia, heart palpitations, neuralgia, and panic attacks.

This blend is especially effective when applied to nerve-rich areas of the body such as the back of the neck, fingers, toes, and the coccyx (tailbone).

The aroma of  LeQuiet Essence is calming and relaxing and promotes deep states of restful, dreamless sleep. LeQuiet Essence lifts the mood and is a remedy for use in the treatment of depression.

LeQuiet Essence can be diffused or used in the tub. Dilute and apply to the body.

Sweet Relief Essential Oil

LeSweet Relief is wonderful for migraines, headaches, strains, sprains, or cramps. All of the essential oils contained in this blend are excellent anti-inflammatory oils and are antispasmodic, making it wonderful for pain relief, soothing inflamed tissues, and aiding circulation. Use to improve memory function, help overcome learning difficulties, or to bring a sense of peace to stressful situations such as presentations or public speaking. LeSweet Relief can be applied at night to ease pain, reduce tension, and help soothe us into a restful night’s sleep. LeSweet Relief can help clear congestion from colds, coughs, and ease a fever.

The universal nature of all of the singles contained in this blend makes it useful for many ailments. Soothing, energizing, calming to nerves, and stimulating all of the body systems and organs make this one an excellent choice for travel or first aid kits. Layer LeSweet Relief with LeDeeper, LeMillenia, LeAmplify, or LePaine for excellent pain-relieving properties. Pair it with LeMygraine for tough headaches or LeCrystal Clear to boost memory function and focus.

LeSweet Relief was blended with essential oils known to help alleviate stress and tension. This blend is wonderful for helping us to center and reset when over-work has brought us to a state of mental, physical, or emotional fatigue. This blend will benefit any condition that is caused or made worse by nervous tension and emotional trauma. LeSweet Relief helps us to move past indecisiveness and helps us to focus on the future.

TendaCare

LeTendaCare is intended to be used when muscles are tight, strained, or injured. This blend is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and has some excellent nervine properties. Besides sports injuries and muscle relaxation, LeTendaCare can be used for back pain, sciatica, bruising, and Charley Horses.

Use LeTendaCare by placing a small amount of carrier oil in the palm of your hand. Add a few drops of LeTendaCare. Use this as a massage oil for tired, overworked muscles, or to help you relax at the end of a long day. LeTendaCare can be added to a bath as an excellent muscle relaxant and overall tonic.

Essential oils added to a carrier immediately begin to “break down” and become less effective therapeutically. Following the method described above will ensure that the essential oils are potent and effective each time you use them.

LeTendaCare has an aroma that is pleasant and light for lifting the mood and clearing the mind.

Peppermint Black Mitcham Essential Oil

Peppermint oil is strongly anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Peppermint oil increases circulation. All varieties of Peppermint essential oil are useful for muscle pain, inflamed joints, and arthritis. The anti-inflammatory properties make Peppermint essential oil supportive of prostate function. Peppermint is renowned for its action on the digestive system and for use in bowel disorders. It is one of the best essential oils for nausea, vomiting, morning sickness (small amounts only), mouth or gum infections, fainting, and motion sickness.

Peppermint is like a rush of fresh energy into the system. It allows us to relax instead of letting anxiety build up in our body or mind. This oil is specific for people who move between highs and lows, sadness and happiness until the ever-widening mood swings settle into lethargy, intolerance, and frustration. Just as Peppermint strengthens the digestion and aids the absorption of nutrients on a physical level, it enhances our ability to “digest” new ideas and impressions.

This variety of Peppermint has chocolaty undertones and reminds you of mint chocolates. Candy makers use this variety of Peppermint plant to make candy and chocolates.

Peppermint (Black Mitcham) was first grown in Mitcham England in the 1750’s and earned England the reputation for producing the best mint in the world. Peppermint (Black Mitcham) has the same latin name as Peppermint Piperita. The major difference, besides aroma, is Peppermint (Black Mitcham) is an heirloom variety, which means it has been grown since the 1750’s without changes and has been passed down from generation to generation. They only harvest once per year to keep the integrity of the Peppermint to its highest standards.

Pine Needle Essential Oil

Pine is especially nice in a bath or sauna. Dilute to apply to the feet or the body.

When Pine essential oil is massaged into the skin, it promotes healthy circulation and brings comfort to sore joints and muscles. Pine is an excellent massage oil for arthritis.

Pine oil increases metabolism and nutrient absorption. It has a beneficial action on both the kidneys and the intestines, aiding them in their function of removing cellular waste and toxins from the body. This essential oil is a pleasant way to disinfect the air or any surface.

Pine needles were used by the ancient Romans and Greeks and by the American Indians to treat respiratory problems, relieve muscle aches, and prevent scurvy.

Pine essential oil is useful for moving on from regrets and self-judgment. It can bring relief from feeling the necessity to “carry the whole world” on our own shoulders. Pine helps us to establish a healthy respect for our own needs, including the need to rest and rejuvenate from time to time. Pine is also for those who confuse the acquisition of more and more “facts” as wisdom.

Sage Essential Oil

The impact on physical health from a strong nervous system and an active lymph system cannot be over-emphasized. Sage’s ability to strengthen the pelvic chakras, and organs within it, gives vigor and strength to the vital centers of the body. With nerves, lymph, and pelvic organs being strengthened, it is easy to see why Sage has long been considered the “master healer.”

Sage is believed to contain constituents that stimulate the secretion of progesterone-testosterone and keep their activities balanced. It is useful for most glandular disorders, any complaint related to lymph congestion, and any disorders related to nerve deterioration or prolonged nervous stress. Sage also clears away cellular debris and strengthens cell wall integrity, making Sage useful for arthritis, dandruff, hair loss, skin conditions, gingivitis, sprains, and firming tissues.

This is a good oil for alleviating the effects of prolonged stress on the body and the mind. Sage cleanses the energy grid and strengthens its ability to protect us from negative influences. Sage has a positive influence on intuition, bringing clarity and vision to our souls if we will take the time to ponder and listen.

The aroma of Sage clears and sharpens the mind.

Fortitude Essential Oil

LeFortitude Essential Oil

Four of the blends contained in LeFortitude are physical healing and pain-relieving oils. The fifth blend, LeTranquility, is generally considered an emotional oil but also has some great physical aspects. LeTranquility is one of the best blends to relieve migraine headaches and is useful for circulatory problems in the extremities. Because LeTranquility has some of the same oils as LeMillenia, it has some ability to realign bones and tissue.

The synergy of this blend of blends is absolutely amazing. It is loaded with healing, muscle relaxing, pain-relieving, and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as emotional support for the anxiety and stress that often comes along with being hurt or injured. These Rubs are made with Almond Oil infused with herbs.
Each of these has its own exceptional healing properties.
Here is a little bit on each of them.

Menthol Crystals (In all rubs) Menthol crystals are used for their analgesic and cooling effects. They contain a local anesthetic, antipruritic, analgesic, antispasmodic and anti-irritant qualities. They are used for pain relief and for things like sprains, sore or pulled muscles, muscle spasms and cramping, and minor aches and pains of any sort.

LN Carrier Oil (In LeDeeperLeIntensityLePaineLePatches, and LeTendaCare Rubs) LN Carrier Oil contains the herbs comfrey, arnica, St. John’s wort, lobelia, calendula, angelica root, valerian root, ginger root, and cayenne. These herbs, infused in almond oil, create a carrier oil which is amazing for injuries, bruising, inflammation, and the general pain and soreness that accompany injuries. The addition of lobelia in this infusion helps to deliver the other healing herbs to the area of concern quickly and relieves pain. The arnica works on sore, tight muscles and helps to reduce swelling of injured areas. Arnica is not usually recommended for use on open wounds but in the small percentage that exists here, we have never had any problem over the course of many years. Comfrey is probably best known for its healing ability for bones and tissues, but it is also very helpful for chest congestion. Cayenne works on the blood and is very effective at improving overall circulation. With increased circulation comes better oxygenation and healing. LN oil is especially effective when coupling it with essential oils such as LePaineLeDeeperLePatches, LeTendaCare, and LeWarmDown.

Mullein Oil (In LeBreezey and LeExhale Rubs) Mullein is anti-inflammatory and soothing. It is one of the best demulcent (healing and soothing) herbs there are, and also has astringent properties (drying to tissues) making it beneficial for ailments such as pneumonia. Mullein has been used for centuries because of its outstanding medicinal properties and has a particular affinity for the respiratory organs. It also has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-spasmodic properties, thus increasing its value in respiratory ailments. Mullein oil should be used when applying oils to the chest for infections, coughs, and congestion. It can also be of benefit as a carrier oil when working with inflammation and pain.

Chamomile/Ginger Oil (In LeInsideOut Rub) Chamomile is excellent for ulcers, indigestion, and relief from nausea and morning sickness. It has a strong anti-histaminic effect, is a gentle liver cleanser, regulates peristalsis activity, and is used to treat diarrhea and constipation. Ginger is a well-known remedy for travel sickness, nausea, indigestion, colic, irritable bowel, loss of appetite, chills, flu, dyspepsia (bloating, heartburn, and flatulence), indigestion, and gastrointestinal problems such as gas and stomach cramps. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory herb as well as anti-viral. Ginger acts on and strengthens the stomach, spleen, liver, bladder, and kidneys. It reduces pain, stimulates circulation, and prevents ulcer formation in the stomach.

Comfrey Oil (In LeMillenia Rub) Comfrey, often called knitbone, is high in vitamin C, E, A, and B vitamins, Calcium, Manganese, and Iron among others. It is a priceless herb for things like arthritis, osteoporosis, broken or fractured bones, sprains, wounds, bruises, and degenerating bones. Comfrey has been one of the most important first aid remedies known to men for centuries. It has been used in the healing of wounds and broken and fractured bones and also relieves pain and inflammation. Dr. Shook, a great herbalist, said “It does not seem to matter much which part of the body is broken or torn, either externally or internally, comfrey will heal it quickly. It is a great cell proliferant (stimulator of new cell growth); it grows new flesh and bone alike, soothing and healing the inflamed tissues in a most remarkable manner.”

Using LN Oil as a carrier oil topically for injuries would be especially effective when coupling it with essential oils such as LeDeeperLeFortitudeLeIntensityLePaineLePatchesLeTendaCare, and LeWarmDown.

Arnica Carrier Oil

Arnica Carrier Oil

Arnica is useful for bumps, bruises, and inflammation. It works on sore, tight muscles and helps to reduce swelling of injured areas. Applying Arnica Oil immediately after the injury can prevent swelling; application, later on, can reduce swelling that has already taken place. Arnica is also effective in relieving the pain of arthritic joints and swollen feet.

In recent years, Arnica is being used by midwives as the oil of choice during exams for dilation during labor. It is absolutely incredible how the application of a little bit of Arnica oil “melts away” any swelling of tissues that may be occurring, and prevents bruising and trauma to those very delicate tissues. One of the most important things I learned in the last few years of my midwife practice. (Thanks to Laura Lechner, friend, and trainer.)

Arnica Oil in herbal/oil form is meant for external use only. It is said to cause swelling in exposed muscle tissue, so it is not used on open wounds or deep abrasions except in homeopathic form. This is one of my favorite healing plants and should be in every first aid kit!

Hemp Carrier Oil

Hemp Seed Carrier Oil

Hemp Seed Carrier Oil comes from the Cannabis sativa (Industrial Hemp) plant seed. Tests have shown that there are little to no cannabinoids present in the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp Seed Oil is regulated in its production and does not contain either CBD or THC.

Hemp Seed Oil is the carrier oil with the highest percentage of essential fatty acids (EFA). It is comprised of between 75% and 80% of total EFAs. Likewise, hemp seed carrier oil is also high in omega 3’s. The component in carrier oils which make them emollient and lubricating, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), is also very high in hemp seed oil. Hemp seed oil is one of nature’s richest sources of PUFAs. PUFAs account for the lubricating and emollient properties of carrier oils, keeping the skin soft and supple while increasing moisture retention of the skin. This combination of EFA and PUFAs makes hemp seed oil helpful for conditions such as dry, rough skin, minor skin abrasions, acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Hemp seed oil is high in vitamin E which is a natural anti-oxidant. It helps to trap and remove excess free radicals that cause damage and lead to premature aging of the skin.
