Are you looking for a natural mosquito repellent? I hate using all those chemicals on myself and I really hate putting them on my kids. I don’t want them to get bitten either especially with the threat of West Nile. Essential oils are a great alternative. Catnip essential oil is highly prized for its very exceptional ability to repel mosquitoes and other biting insects. The component found in catnip essential oil responsible for this action is nepetalactone. It is this component that gives catnip its very distinct aroma. Research has shown nepetalactone to be from 10 up to 20% times stronger than DEET for repelling these nasty little creatures.
Blends containing more than one single oil are so much better at keeping multiple species at bay. They also tend to smell better. The essential oil blend LeAway contains a very high percentage of catnip essential oil. It can be diluted with water or Miracle II Neutralizer, put in a glass spray bottle, and applied either by misting or rubbing on, just as you would any other insect repellent. You can also spray the diluted solution on clothing and on the bottom of pant legs, sleeves and hats (being careful to avoid contact with eyes). To an ounce (6 teaspoons) of water or Miracle II Neutralizer start with about 20 drops of LeAway.
Use right away for the best potency.
LeAway is a great blend containing catnip as well as citronella and other singles oils. It is a great one for use against bugs and mosquitoes.
Butterfly Express also has a new blend called LeBeGone that is proving to be a wonderful bug repellent. It contains Cedarwood, Lavender, Lemongrass, and Rose Geranium. I much prefer the smell of this one because of the floral and citrus notes. I have only used LeBeGone this season but I am loving it.
